The Shower: A Modern Man's Phone Booth Haven
Share
The shower. A simple concept but when you break it down further, it's your phone-booth haven.
A time of peace, solitude and self-care for 5, 10, 15+ minutes out of the day. It's how you jumpstart your day, or end a long work day as you clean up and wind down for bed. It puts you in the present moment as you focus on your body, your breath, the warm or cold water, the aromas and suds. You're not in a rush but you've carved out this time specifically to focus on your wellbeing.
A lot can happen in a shower. You enter in as one person, maybe dirty, worn out, mind racing and then you exit as a new person. Like Superman in the phone booth. It's sacred to you. No one else really knows what happens in your shower and what happens there, stays there.

When you enter inside, the curtains close and the journey begins. Out with the old, in with the new. Your senses awaken and reset. Your mind rests and you simply feel. Distractions aside, it's a reminder of who you are and who you are not.
The water serves as the current and flow to the experience. The water can be strong or gentle, the temperature can be comforting or invigorating. You decide. You grab your favorite soap bar, your scrubber, and lather up.
As you scrub and cleanse, you focus on parts of your body where it might be the only time that it gets your attention. Your toes, ankles, the backs of your knees and so on. Whether you think about it or not, this is a sign of gratitude for your body, the functions and what it does for you on the daily.
An aromatic steam begins to build and your sense of smell is awakened. Smells of herbs, fresh citrus, earthy woods and resiny extracts. The mind is curious and inspired by it as positive emotions, memories and inspirations manifest.
You might even find yourself singing, humming a tune or imagining that your showering under a waterfall in the middle of the jungle with a monkey on your shoulder. You've been set free to dream and use your imagination however you'd like. On the flip side, you might find yourself grunting, deep exhaling and shaking off some valid frustration.
As the soapy, aromatic journey continues, you've noticed that you've forgotten about the stress and worries of your day. You've let it go just from being in the zone of taking care of yourself. New fresh thoughts and inspirations naturally begin to flow in, much like the fresh flowing water out of the shower head.
You breathe and rinse, the journey is complete. As you exit your phone booth haven and dry off, you realize that you're back! Better than ever. Or on the other hand, you're ready for bed. You've transformed, even if its only a 5% or 74.6% change, you've made progress in some shape or form and that, my friend, is awesome.
