First Fish of the Year | Carve Out Time For You

First Fish of the Year | Carve Out Time For You

First fish of the year on my birthday. I haven’t been out fishing in awhile. It was awesome!

70 degrees with a slight breeze, nice day.

I caught a few black drums on shrimp fishing from the shore. They were biting like crazy! They like to nibble on your bait, steal it and then take off. So I don’t let my line just sit there. I feel it out with a tight line for the moment when they nibble and hit it. All it takes is a slight set of the hook or pulling the line back and you’re in.

Fishing has been a passion of mine since I was in diapers. I fished almost daily up until college when life gradually got busier and busier. I got stuck in work mode and years went by where I barely fished at all.

Well here I am, older now and making fishing a priority again for my own well-being as a form of self-care, fun and some good food. Fishing awakens your senses. The thrill of a catch, the patience, the smells, the feels and our dude-instincts that all come out. This is what life is all about.

It’s important to actively carve out time for yourself, just for you. Because no one is going to do it for you, besides maybe a reminder from your wife to go fishing like my wife did for me today.

Yes work hard, we know this as dudes. But also enjoy the journey and trust the process. When you take time for you and self-care along the way, life becomes much more enjoyable and ultimately you still end up getting to where you’re destined to be.

Stay tuned for more and we’ll see you out there, dude!
